Tracking Arctic Bears in a Warming World

Help researchers study polar, grizzly, and black bears to understand how climate change and human interaction are reshaping their lives in the Arctic.

Studying Bears at the Edge of a Changing Ecosystem

The Arctic Bears Project uses remote trail cameras to monitor polar, grizzly, and black bears in Wapusk National Park, where Arctic tundra meets boreal forest. As sea ice melts earlier each year, polar bears spend longer on land, leading to more overlap with grizzlies, black bears, and people. By identifying bears in images, volunteers help researchers track bear movements, understand species interactions, and explore how a changing climate is driving shifts in behaviour, habitat use, and predator-prey dynamics.
